mikebru10 I'm sure the feature that you have described would be useful for you, but it seems as if a static validation table, which you seem to be describing, would would not have much general utility. I would much prefer to see a feature where certain fields can have a regular expressions for input validation applied to them within the form editor. Having this feature for the "Single Line Text" field would be sufficient, but it would be nice to have it for the "Number" and "Paragraph Text" fields as well.
The Machform developers have refused to add this feature so far. Years ago, I insisted that this feature was a necessity so vehemently that I was rebuked by the Machform staff. (I admit I deserved it; I expressed myself rudely.) The Machform staff stated that their reason for not including this feature was that they didn't want to support the development of regular expressions. This just isn't a valid reason; no reasonable person would expect them to do this. There are plenty of free resources online to help anyone who is interested find out what regular expressions are and how to create their own.
This is also obviously a feature that people want; many competing form products offer it already and some have done so for years. (Because of Machform's low cost and otherwise fairly rich feature set, we are still using it, but we would drop it like a shot if there was a comparable product at a comparable price that also offered regular expression validation. So far, I haven't been able to find such a thing.) I still hold out a faint hope that the Machform developers will one day add this feature. (And to head off people who want to helpfully point out that I can use the option to add a custom javascript to a form to do this, that won't work. If I add validation that way, it operates as a separate validation step and isn't integrated with Machform's built-in validation. I want my custom validation to look just like the built-in validation. Plus, it is too time consuming.)
